The Direct Drive system uses a slow-rotating motor to drive the turntable directly. This system has several advantages. It offers high performance such as rotation precision and strong torque, does not require replacement of parts and maintains high reliability for a long time. But the direct drive system is said to produce fluctuations in rotation called cogging. For the SL-1210MK7, a new coreless direct drive motor was developed. This particular motor uses a coreless stator. Removing the core (iron core) from the stator eliminates the root cause of the phenomenon. In addition, the strength of the rotor magnets was improved to the highest possible level, and the gap between the coreless stator magnets and the rotor was optimized, thus achieving a high torque output equal to that of the SL-1210MK5. Featuring smooth rotation and strong torque, this motor accurately and faithfully reproduces the sound from the groove of an analog record.
